Avid were out in force at last week's NAMM show, and
unveiled a raft of new hardware and software releases for audio
professionals. Included were everything from their new Venom synth
to the latest version of their Torq DJ software.
Venom analogue
synth
This has been creating buzz for a while now (check out Alex's teaser
article) and finally got its first outing in LA. The 49-key,
12-note Venom comes with 512 single-sound patches and 256 layered
patches for out-of-the-box playing, and a software editor for
designing and configuring your own parameters. M-Audio describe the
Venom synthesiser's
sound as "aggressive", combining the warmth of vintage analogue
keyboards with modern digital processsing. You can even use the
synth for production as a USB audio/MIDI interface with Pro Tools
M-Powered and other music software.
Torq 2.0 DJ software
The latest version of the DJ software from Torq works as a standalone application
or can be integrated with your turntables, CD decks or other audio
controllers. Build complex mixes with Torq's beatmatching and
synchronisation across four full-featured decks. The TraqMorph
feature provides your mix with smooth transitions like house-style
ducking, while the software also comes packed with built-in effects
and loops for original sets.
GSR PA speakers
Developed by the same engineering team who brought us the range
of M-Audio
studio monitors, this series of portable active sound
reinforcement speakers are designed for musicians and DJs in small
to medium-sized venues. Couplingpro-quality sound with rugged
performance and durability, the GSR series are available in 10" and
12" full-range PA cabinets and an 18" subwoofer for extra bass in
larger spaces.
Eleven Rack Expansion Pack
This software add-on gives you more guitar amp and effects
emulations as well as bringing powerful bass rig and vocal studio
capabilities to your Digidesign Eleven
Rack. The Expansion Pack will be available from March 2011.
