Go Pro Cine Form Studio 4newspage1After announcing beta versions just a week ago, GoPro's updates to the CineForm Studio production software are now officially out. As well as a name change (from Neo HD and Neo 3D to Studio Premium and Studio Professional respectively), there's a new interface and improved features too.

Sports camera kit manufacturer GoPro took over video codec developer CineForm in March last year, and recently made the CineForm Studio software free to download. Now they've added some useful new tools and compatibility that should catch the eye of the professional market as well as consumers who just want to adjust aspect ratios or correct distortion. Both the Premium and Professional versions now include non-destructive 3D correction, reframing and image manipulation, and also support HD and a wide range of 2D and 3D cameras.

If you're regularly working with 3D though, the Professional version is what you should be looking at. It takes the features on offer in Premium and adds support for all types of 2D and 3D cameras, as well as improved non-destructive 3D correction and independent eye control for professional 3D camera rigs. Unfortunately these updates aren't free like the regular version of GoPro CineForm Studio but the powerful new features should be worth it for professional users, reckons our Solutions Architect and CineForm fan Jamie Allan.

"We've always been big fans of CineForm's Neo 3D software," he said, "and recommended it as an addition to any S3D workflow as the active metadata codec lets you wrap both left and right-eye feeds into a single clip, making it easy to edit. Having built on that with improved camera support and a more intuitive interface, the new CineForm Studio Professional and Premium releases will add even more 3D power to your production pipeline."
