Friday 18 December 2009

It's finally here... No sooner had we let you know about the interim release of Pro Tools 8,  Avid have released Pro Tools 8.0.3, the release which officially supports Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, as well as a beta version for Windows 7 users.

A couple of months ago Avid announced a pre-release version of Pro Tools 8.0.3, which enabled users on Snow Leopard to get a high degree of functionality, but it wasn't a supported release and there were some incompatibilities and non-operating components. With this complete release, users can migrate to OS X 10.6 and be assured that they are now running on a qualified and supported operating system. protools 8

Pro Tools 8.0.3 is available for Pro Tools HD, LE and M-Powered, and is a free download for registered Pro Tools 8 owners. Pro Tools 8.0.3 runs on Mac OS X 10.6.1 – 10.6.2 (Snow Leopard) and Mac OS X 10.5.5 – 10.5.8 (Leopard). However, it is now an Intel-only release, meaning that G4 and G5 PPC machines are no longer supported.

Also released is a public beta version for Windows 7, compatibile with 32- and 64-bit versions of Microsoft’s latest OS. This public beta release is provided as a convenience for customers wishing to begin a transition to Windows 7 before a fully-tested and qualified version of Pro Tools becomes available.
