The XF300's little brothers, the XF100 and XF105 look likely
to give Sony's HVR-A1E and JVC's GY-HM100 a run for their
money, recording
broadcast quality MPEG-2 full HD in .MXF format onto Compact Flash
cards.
Both cameras support 4:2:2 colour sampling and have a dual
memory card slot, meaning you can use two hot-swappable Compact
Flash cards at once to enable relay recording or double slot
recording (a new feature in which footage is saved to both cards
simultaneously). They're also compatible with the main NLEs - Canon
XF Utility software and plug-ins for FCP and Media Composer are
included as standard.
Other key features include:
- A 1/3 type, 2.07 megapixel Canon CMOS sensor that captures full
HD at native 1920x1080 resolution
- A new 10x zoom, 30.4mm wide-angle Canon HD video lens
- A three-level digital tele-converter function that can extend
the lens' focal length by 1.5x, 3x or 6x, depending on how close to
the action you want to get.
- Canon's advanced Optical Image Stabiliser (OIS)
- Support for 1080/50i, 1080/25p, 720/50p and 720/25p
The XF105
also boasts HD/SD-SDi output, genlock and timecode over BNC.
The XF100 and 105 are slated for release in January 2011, with
pricing to be announced soon. In the meantime, you can take a look at our
