Logo _bve 12nobackSony's David Young was kind enough to give us a quick rundown of the key XDCAM workflow tools on show at this year's BVE.

First up was the PDW-2 drive, which now comes armed with two lasers and so is two and a half times faster than its predecessor, the U1. (We're not quite sure how that maths works, but as the drive can apparently transfer an our of HD footage in twelve minutes, we're willing to overlook it).

Next came the latest XDS deck offering, which has delivered on the promise it showed when we previewed it a while back. Worth noting is that fact that - as well as supporting an internal hard drive, SxS cards and every flavour of XDCAM, it now supports the newer, larger, 100GB and 128GB professional disks and you can even network into it, so multiple editors can be pulling multiple feeds from multiple media at once. Excellent.
