Vc 80-vc 100_stacked2Teranex has always produced some of the best conversion utilities, and it looks like they'll now be much more affordable! The news that Blackmagic Design has added the firm to its portfolio (much the same as they did with former niche company DaVinci) opens up a new range of video processing products to high-end broadcast and post-production customers, and the possibility of 2D to 3D conversion in future BMD boxes.

One of the key product lines getting onboard with BMD is the VC100 family of broadcast image processors. Initial pricing from Blackmagic has indicated the VC100 will undergo a massive price drop from around $90k down to $19,995k! As well as being pretty nifty format converters and frame synchronisers, Teranex's recent 3D toolkit now adds 3D camera alignment, 3D dual channel conversions and 3D simulation from 2D archive footage (surely a major factor in Blackmagic's decision to take the company on).

The Teranex range of products will continue to bear the original brand but will now be sold by Blackmagic Design. Teranex GM Mike Poirier hoped this would mean products would beneft from BMD's "global reach, leading edge technologies, widely recognised brand name, strong systems and networking expertise and worldwide customer relationships".

Blackmagic Design CEO Grant Petty explained the acquisition of Teranex was also strategic for them: "Its technology, solutions and market complement our own efforts and its high-quality video processing technology enables us to provide our customers with even higher levels of video quality - extending Blackmagic Design's product range for the broadcast, feature film and high-end post-production markets."
