With an improved Avid Media Access (AMA) system on
Media Composer 5, there is now better integration of file-based
media such as Pro Res (.mov) and Red Files (.R3D), which means
there are now new ways to re-link an offline resolution sequence
back to full res originals.
This will work for both existing Media Composer workflows and if
you're coming from Final Cut Pro
projects.
If you're currently linking AMA files into Media Composer
and transcoding clips to offline resolutions to run your edit, you
no longer have to batch import all of your clips (which would bring
in the entire QuickTime file). It is now possible to simply
highlight the sequence and the AMA based clips, and re-link them
using the re-link option in order to transcode the sequence to your
full-blown online res.
If you're currently in Final Cut Pro, you can pull your sequence
into Media Composer 5 by using
Boris AAF Transfer or
Automatic Duck Pro to export an AAF file. Once imported, the
FCP sequence will be offline, but all you'll need to do is re-link
(via the same tool) to link the sequence back to the AMA files to
get back to the Pro Res files.
